Located in the Pearl River Delta region in Guangdong Province, Zhongshan was one of the southern cities the Chinese government opened up in the 1980's. Zhongshan, with three other neighbouring cities, Dongguan, Nanhai and Shunde, were developed as industrial manufacturing bases. After decades of rapid economic development, Zhongshan has a high demand for environmental protection services, including water treatment.
Zhongshan Sino French Water Supply Co. Ltd. is a joint venture between Sino French Water, a subsidiary of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, and Quanlu Water Supply Company of Zhongshan city. The joint venture, signed in 1998 has a daily capacity of 500,000 cubic meters and is contracted to operate for 22 years. The joint venture is the largest drinking water producer in Zhongshan.
Zhongshan Municipal Dafeng Water Supply Co. Ltd., another joint venture of Sino French Water and Zhongshan Municipal Infrastructure Investment Company, produces 500,000 cubic meters of water each day.
