Qingdao Sino French Hairun Water Supply

Qingdao Sino French Hairun Water Supply Co., Ltd. is a 50/50 cooperative joint venture by Sino French Water and Qingdao Hairun Water Supply Company Ltd.  The joint venture entered into operations in August 2002 under a cooperation period of 25 years and is the first Sino-Foreign Corporation involving the public utility industry in Qingdao.  Sino French Water is a joint venture by SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT and Hong Kong NWS Holdings.

Qingdao is a famous coastal city of China with a population of around three million.  It has been selected as the competition site for sailing for 2008 Beijing Olympics.  In compliance with the higher drinking water safety standard during the Olympics period, the joint venture increased the level of water analysis to every four hours and other monitoring measures, as well as equipped with additional resources for any special water treatment.

The joint venture takes raw water from three major sources: Huang He, Dagu He and Laoshan Reservoir.  The water is then treated in Baishahe Water Plant and Xianjiazhai Water Treatment Plant.  With a daily capacity of 726,000 cubic meters, the joint venture serves approximately 90% of the water demand of Qingdao city.

On-line monitoring systems have been implemented and continuous analysis of raw water and treated water are performed to ensure that the quality of the water supply to customers comply with national drinking water standard.

The successful partnership in water supply has later led to the extension of the cooperation to include sludge treatment.  A sludge treatment plant, with a daily capacity of 12,000 cubic meters, was constructed at the phase II project of Xianjiazhai Water Plant in 2006.
