Macao Water Supply (Macao Water) is a joint venture between SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT and Hong Kong's NWS Holdings Limited. Granted a 25-year full-water concession by the Macau Government, Macao Water started operations in 1985. In 2009, Macao Water successfully renews the contract to continue providing services in the next 20 years. It has become one of the flagship businesses for SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT in Asia.
Macao Water is the sole drinking water supplier, network manager and customer service provider for the entire Macau region. Facing an array of challenges in the local water industry, such as salinity and water shortages, Macao Water, with a daily capacity of 330,000 cubic meters utilises world-class technology and manages the operations effectively to provide European-standard quality water to over 540,000 Macau residents and 27 million tourists annually. Macao Water has one of the lowest non-revenue water rates of 12.8%, compared with 20% average in China. With its customers in mind, Macao Water has also kept the same water tariff level since 1997.
Of the three water treatment plants at Macao Water, all three utilize SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT patented treatment technologies. Most notably, the Main Storage Reservoir (MSR II) Water Treatment Plant II uses flotation and ultra-filtration membrane technology, one of the most advanced of its kind in the world. This technology stops bacteria and virus but allows dissolved minerals to pass by using high resistance cellulose acetate membranes.
Macao Water is trusted by its customers and provides high quality customer service. In addition to customer service hotlines, a services centre and home service, the company has formed a customer liaison group, comprised of Macao Water management, the Macau Consumer Council and representatives from different industries and associations, that meets regularly, during which the participants provide feedback to Macao Water. Based on these feedback, Macao Water can then improve its policies and services.
