Operating since November 2002 for a contract period of 50 years, Chongqing Sino French Water Supply is a 60/40 joint venture established between Sino French Water Devleopment, a SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT subsidiary, and Chongqing Water Group.
Chongqing has seen rapid and successful economic development in the past decade as it was part of the Chinese government's initiative to develop the western part of the country, which affected the municipal's environment.
Chongqing Sino French Water Supply, with a daily capacity of 540,000 cubic meters, is the sole drinking water supplier and network manager in the northern part of the city centre including Jianbei, Yubei and the Northern Development Zone. The population served is almost 1 million together with a large industrial and commercial base. This area has developed quickly. Between 2002 and 2008, water demand has grown every year at an average rate of 14%.
The central government has put increasing attention and focus on sewage treatment. Chongqing Sino French Water also operates a wastewater treatment plant, Chongqing Tangjiatuo Wastewater Treatment Plant, a 50/50 joint venture established by Sino French Water Development and Chongqing Water Holding (Group). The plant marks a milestone for SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT as it was the first municipal wastewater project obtained by Sino French Water Development. The plant has a daily capacity of 300,000 cubic meters and a 30-year contract period.
