The relationship between SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT and China can be traced back to more than 100 years ago. In 1897, its branch, Société Générale de Belgique entered China and contracted to build the Luhang Railway of 1,200 km. This is a historical project which connects Beijing and Wuhan, traversing the whole North China and Central China.


Over the past 30 years, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT has always been active in the markets of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, experienced strong development in the fields of water engineering, operation management and wastes treatment; it has become one of the most influential foreign companies in China's environmental protection industry.


  1. 1975

    In 1975,  Degremont entered China’s market and contracted the first project, Liaoyang Petro-chemical in China.

  2. 1985

    In 1985,  SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT established Sino-French Holdings with New World Group from Hong Kong set up Macao Water and CEM through Sino-French Holdings.

  3. 1987

    In 1987,   SITA started the waste disposal business in Hong Kong.

  4. 1992

    In 1992,  Sino French Water was established and created the first joint venture in Mainland China. This joint venture is also the first Sino-foreign joint venture in the water industry in Mainland China.

  5. 2002

    In 2002,  The first full services water supply project-Chongqing Sino French Water Supply Co., Ltd. of Sino French Water was founded. 

  6. 2002

    In 2002,  SITA established its first waste project in Mainland China-Shanghai Chemical Industry Park SITA Waste Services Company and has been providing hazardous waste incineration service for the park and Shanghai. 

  7. 2006

    In 2006,  Chongqing Sino French Water Investment Co., Ltd. was set up. It is the first Sino foreign investment company in China’s water field.
